The oleo-gum-resin is known for its medicinal properties from ages and has being in use as a medicine in India, China and Far East since a long time. It is acrid, alterative, analgesic, anthelmintic, antiasthmatic, anticoagulant, antioxidant, antiperiodic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, aromatic, bitter, carminative, deobstruent, digestive, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, laxative, nerve stimulant, sedative, stimulant, stomachic and tonic. It is used for simple digestive problems such as wind, bloating, weak digestion, constipation, flatulence and spasmodic affections of the bowels. It is a valuable remedy for hysteria, amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, nervous disorders of women and children. Its volatile oil has components that leave the body via the respiratory system and aid the coughing up of congested mucus. It is also used as an expectorant in chronic bronchitis, whooping coughs, pneumonia and asthma. It also lowers blood pressure and thins the blood.
Recommended Dosage:Oleo-gum-resin : 125 mg to 500 mg powder; Seeds : 5 gm powder of dried seeds.
Contraindication:The oleo-gum-resin is contraindicated for infant colic. Use in children is discouraged because of a potential to produce methemoglobinemia. The oleo-gum-resin is also contraindicated during pregnancy or when peptic ulcers are present.
